Gustaf Sylvan Obituary

Columbia, South Carolina - A memorial service for Gustaf "Gus" Jonson Sylvan III, 70, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Sylvan died Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of Gustaf Jonson Sylvan II and Sara Jones Sylvan. He attended A.C. Flora High School, Keenan High School, and was a graduate of Spring Valley High School. Gus graduated from the University of Georgia in 1976, where he was a part of the golf team. He was the owner of a local State Farm agency for 37 years. In his spare time Gus enjoyed playing golf both recreationally and competitively. He played in multiple city, state, and national events while winning a few along the way.
Surviving are his son, Jay Sylvan; daughter, Whitney Sylvan Ransom (DJ); and grandchildren, Jackson Ransom, Emma Grace Ransom, and Charlotte Ransom.

Jay, Whitney and family,
So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was my insurance agent for more years than I can count. I never had to worry about whether I was getting the best coverage because he always made sure I was taken care of. But not only was he my agent, I counted him as a friend.
