Mr. McCain died Friday, June 17, 2011. Born June 1, 1924 in Columbia, he was a son of the late William Arthur McCain and Carrie Boland McCain. Mr. McCain proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He was an avid sports fan, and particularly favored USC. During his time in the navy he pitched a no hitter in 1947. He worked over 30 years for Mack Trucks located on Bluff Road. Mr. McCain was a former member of First Baptist Church of Columbia. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lillian McCain; daughters, Sandy McCain Camp, Sharon McCain (Larry) Rickborn of Columbia and Christie McCain (Jimmy) James of Columbia; grandchildren, Cresta (David) Weissenburger, John-Philip Camp, and Emily (Scot) Webster; great grandchildren, Morgan, Madison, Reagan and Jackson; sisters, Margaret M. Joye and Roberta McCain; brothers, George Edward McCain and wife, Beverly, Marshall McCain and wife, Corene as well as many nieces and nephews. We are so sorry about the death of Mr. McCain. We thank him for his service to our country, fighting to rid our world of tyranny, cruelty and injustice. We owe so much to "The Greatest Generation". We hope and pray that the family will find strength and comfort in your faith and your memories.
