Michael Kay Obituary

WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Michael F. “Diamond the Clown” Kay, 62, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Dunn’s Chapel Church. Officiating will be Rev. Tom Atten. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites. Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Watkins, Joe Hilton, Mike Hughes, Rusty Kinard, Harold Hutto, Steve Duncan, Steve Hawkins and Allen Millsaps. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamil Jokers, Jamil Divan, Dr. Mary A. Ackerman and Dr. John Lazaro. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Saturday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorial may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or the Leukemia Society, 107 Westpark Blvd., Ste. 150, Columbia, SC 29210.
 
Mr. Kay, loving husband of Dianne Lee Kay, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Born in Colleton County, he was the son of the late William Horace Kay and Eddra Fender Kay. He was a member of Dunn’s Chapel, Mason, Jamil Shrine Temple and Jamil Jokers. Mr. Kay retired from the Department of Corrections. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and watching old movies.
 
Surviving in addition to his wife, Dianne Lee Kay of West Columbia; are son and daughter-in-law, Michael Fender Kay II and his wife, Anna B., of Cayce; daughter and son-in-law, Miranda Kay Smith and her husband, Jeremy W., of West Columbia; grandchildren, Asher and Norah Kay, Cooper and Barrett Smith; sister, Alice K. Gibson of Ehrhardt. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Jackson Kinard and Joseph Wingard Kinard.
 
The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to Jin and Irene, the nurses and staff of the 8th Averyt and ICU at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.
