To Mark and Family: So sorry to hear of Tom's death. My wife and I enjoyed the ceremony honoring him at the Wild Turkey Center a few months ago. Tom was a genius at organization and was years ahead of his time when he founded the NWTF with the help of game biologist Vernon Bevill and Sam Crouch Sr., among others, in Edgefield. He also founded Smallmouth Inc., after leaving the NWTF. He was going to set up the International Quail Foundation, but Jerry Allen beat him to it with Quail Unlimited.
Tom enjoyed fishing as well as hunting and he and I spent time together catching hybrids and largemouth bass on Clarks Hill Lake.
He was so proud of you, Mark. Your Mom, Jennie, must not be forgotten because of her wholehearted support during good times and bad as the NWTF was growing up. Her premature death was a shock to us all, but I like to think that now they're together again in a better place. Sincerely, Bill Baab, Outdoor Editor (retired), The Augusta Chronicle
