David Clemmey Obituary

After a brief illness, David Clemmey, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Son of the late James and Honora (Kelleher) Clemmey, David was born January 19, 1938 on Church Street in Mansfield, MA.

David was proud to be a lifelong resident of Mansfield and served the town for many years on various boards. Most notably was his turn as selectman. He served from 1969-1971 and again from 1976-1979. He also served on the School Committee, Finance Committee and Board of Health.

David was also a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's church in Mansfield. He helped secure the funds to build Bishop Feehan High School for students from local towns to receive a Catholic education.

David was a member of the North Attleboro Lodge of Elks. In 2003 he became an honorary lifetime member.

David's favorite pastime was cribbage. He was an exceptional card player. He had a very no-nonsense, serious approach to playing cards. He was a member of the American Cribbage Congress, the largest cribbage organization in the world. David has belonged to the organization for over 25 years. He holds the rank of 3-star life master. Often a top-ranked player, he has played in tournaments around the country. He was still on his game at the age of 85! He had just won 2nd place in a tournament in CT. For the 2022/2023 season he was ranked 55th nationally. For the East standings his ranking is 9th.

David leaves behind his wife, Jean (Jeanguenin) of Mansfield; daughters, Rebecca Clemmey of North Attleboro and Melissa Luongo (Ross) of North Attleboro; and beloved grandchildren Emma and Jackson Luongo. David also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Honora, and his brothers James, Karl, Andrew, and John Clemmey.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, December 18th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Sherman and Jackson funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 19th at 11:00 am in Saint Mary's Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106), Mansfield. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Army at the conclusion of services. Burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, David's family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the West Side Benevolent Circle, PO Box 506, Mansfield, MA 02048.
