Esther Ruth Rudolph
Grafton - Esther Ruth Rudolph, 87, passed away at 9:35 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2025, in the Emergency Room at Jersey Community Hospital. She was born on October 31, 1937, in Grafton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Leonard Earl and Reta Marguerite (Vinson) Wallace. A lifelong resident of Jersey County, Esther learned the value of hard work, family, and strong morals from a young age, having been raised on the farm. She instilled those same values into her own children, carrying down generations of lessons rooted in love, integrity, and dedication. On March 19, 1955, she married the love of her life, Jackie Lee Rudolph, at the Methodist Parsonage in Grafton. Together, they built a life centered around family, adventure, and a shared love for making memories. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Deborah and Michael, who were the pride and joy of Esther's life. Esther had a zest for life and a heart full of love. She always made time for fun, whether it be with family or friends, and she gained a lifetime of friendships and meaningful relationships along the way. Her love and generosity knew no bounds - whether it was a hot cooked meal delivered to your door, a small heartfelt gift, or a vase of fresh-cut flowers from her yard tied with a bow made with love. Her smile could light up a room, her laughter was contagious, and her wisdom was a gift to anyone fortunate enough to know her. Esther, like her mother, loved to go fishing. In fact, she recently told her daughter they needed to plan a fishing trip - but not before checking the almanac first. Debbie was always scoping out ponds and seeking permission, ensuring they had the perfect spot ready. She took immense pride in her home and yard, decorating for every holiday and keeping her flowers tended with care. She also loved crafting and sewing, often making her own alterations, as well as quilting and crocheting. Esther had an eye for style and always dressed with care, ensuring her jewelry matched just right - and if it didn't, she would make it herself, creating beautiful beaded pieces, mostly for her own collection. She and Jack shared many wonderful years traveling the country in their motorhome and were actively involved with the Tri-County Antique Club, where they formed countless friendships and created special memories. Jack preceded her in death on January 21, 2019. Surviving are her daughter, Deborah "Debbie" Kennedy of Grafton; her son, Michael "Mike" Rudolph of Godfrey; her former son-in-law, David Kennedy of Bayou Sorrel, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Haley (Blake) Bourgeois of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Michael Kennedy of Woodburn, and Lindsey (Jon) Anderson of Ashland City, Tennessee; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Rudolph of Dow and Mickey Rudolph of Fieldon; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Eldon Earl Wallace; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew Jackson "A.J." and Gertrude Mary Rudolph; and two brothers-in-law, Donald "Don" Rudolph and Robert "Bob" Rudolph. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. In honor of Esther's love for her community, memorials may be given to the Tri-County Antique Club.
