Judith Barnerd Obituary
Judith Ann Barnerd
Edwardsville, IL - It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Judith (Judy) Ann Barnerd (Morgando) on March 24, 2026, at her residence at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville, IL. She was 86 years old.
Born May 29, 1939, at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Detroit, MI, Judy was the eldest daughter of John and Angie (Garella) Morgando. She is survived by two younger brothers, John D. Morgando and his wife, Sharon, of Bradenton, FL, and Jimmy Morgando and his wife, Georgann, of Litchfield, IL. Judy married the late Clinton B. Ringering in 1961. They shared two children, both surviving, Patricia Kay Tomerlin (Jay) of Alton, IL and Michael Clinton Ringering, of Alhambra, IL. Following their divorce, she remarried on Feb. 15, 1974, to the late John (Jack) A. Barnerd, an Alton native and long-time owner of Barleff's Men's Clothing Store at Wilshire Village in East Alton, IL. Also surviving is their only child, John A. Barnerd, his wife, Amy, and their daughter, Juliana, of Alton, IL. Judy's also survived by her grandson, Brian Tomerlin, his wife, Mary, and her great-granddaughter, Ingrid, of Springfield, MO.
Judy spent much of her early adult life as a stay-at-home mom, volunteering for numerous school-sponsored activities, attending endless sporting events, monitoring homework, and serving as a modern-day Uber driver as her children progressed through East Alton Grade School and Junior High, and East Alton-Wood River Community High School. She earned her real estate license in the early 1970s, spending several years working for Woof Realty in Alton, IL. One of her greatest passions and joys in life turned into a 20-year career at Schnucks Grocery Store in Godfrey, IL, where she served as the floral department manager. Her love of flowers and arrangement design, combined with an affable, outgoing personality, transformed customers into personal friends, as her exquisite creations reflected the love and care she invested in each order. She treated the every-day request just as she did major holidays, but her star shined the brightest during the Christmas season.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 2 at Holy Angels Parish, 345 E. Acton Ave., Wood River, IL, 62095, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by mass from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. A private burial will follow. Visitation, funeral, and burial services are being provided by Marks Mortuary, Wood River, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests consideration for donations to Holy Angels Parish or Family Hospice of Belleville, IL, 5110 West Main Street, Belleville, IL 62226.
