John "Jack" A. Barnerd
Edwardsville - John A. "Jack" Barnerd, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville.
Born January 5, 1930 in Alton, he was the son of Abner Allen and Patricia (Coughlin) Barnerd.
A United States Army veteran, he owned and operated Barleff's Menswear in East Alton for over 40 years. Jack served on the St. Louis Regional Airport Board and served as Chairman of the Board for many years. He was also long-time member of the East Alton Rotary Club.
On February 15, 1974 in Las Vegas, NV, he married Judith Morgando. She survives.
Surviving also are two sons, John (Amy) Barnerd, Michael Ringering (fiance', Jackie Spahr); two daughters, Patricia (Jay) Tomerlin, Jacqueline Williams; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Barnerd; and sister, Jo Alice Saenz.
Jack defined the term Gentlemen in all respects, and was loved by all who knew him. A loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 9 am until time of service at 11 am, Saturday, December 30 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Father Donald Wolford will officiate.
Private Family Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to Family Hospice of Belleville and/or East Alton History Museum.
