Anne Smith Obituary

Anne Catherine O'Malley Smith, 65, passed away peacefully at Regional Hospital of Scranton on Friday, Dec. 11, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Anne was the beloved wife of Thomas F. Smith, who preceded her in death in 2004. She and Tom spent many happy years together traveling and enjoying each other. Anne was an amazing and dedicated caregiver to Tom during his lengthy illness.

Daughter of the late James and Rosemary McManamon O'Malley, Anne graduated from Holy Rosary High School. She held an associate's degree in business from Keystone College and a Bachelor's in Business Management from Wilkes University. She was formerly employed at Metlife, Clarks Summit, as a computer programmer.

After her retirement, Anne became very active in the South Side Bowling league, Holy Rosary Block Party Committee as well as the Mary Mother of God Bereavement Committee and Choir.

Anne loved her nieces, nephews and godchildren like her own. She enjoyed attending all their events, and loved to spend time with family and friends. She was a wonderful card player and quilter. Anne was a kind and generous soul who always had time to whomever was in need. Anne was a lover of all animals, most especially dogs. Her dog, Bruno, was her best friend. She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by siblings, Joan Thomas and husband, Ron, Lake Winola; Jim O'Malley and wife, Gail, Apex, N.C.; Mari Albert and husband, Jim, Manahawkin, N.J.; Rosemary Rosecrans, North Plainfield, N.J.; and Michele Kuytla and husband, Richard Blakely; an aunt, Katie McDonnell; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be Monday with Mass in celebration of a life well lived, at 11 a.m. in Mary Mother of God at Holy Rosary Church, William Street. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church. Friends may call today, 4 to 8 p.m., in the Joseph J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 329 W. Market St., Scranton. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in Anne's name to Grifffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA 18411.
