Gail William Rosemergey, 88, of Jermyn, Pa., passed away Oct. 30, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Gail was born in Jermyn, Pa. The family moved briefly to Union Dale before returning to Jermyn at age seven where he lived his life and raised his family. He graduated from Jermyn High School and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Morcom Rosemergey, in 1955 on his 21st birthday. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this past September.
Gail had a long career as a quality control analyst at Bendix/Allied Signal in Montrose until retirement. He remained active working with Battenberg Funeral Home.
He was a stalwart member of his community his entire life. He was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Jermyn and served as lay leader for many years along with singing in the church choir, leading Welsh cookie and pasty fundraisers, teaching Sunday school, providing general maintenance and ringing the church bell. He was a proud Free Mason and member of the Aurora Lodge number 523 since 1972 where he served in leadership as a past master. He was a volunteer member of the Crystal Fire Company for more than 50 years and sang in the Jermyn Community Choir Holiday Festival for more than 25 years.
Gail's was a life well-lived. He was ever curious about the world, including: people (he never met a stranger), nature (an avid gardener, hunter and bird watcher), all kinds of foods (one of his great pleasures), music (a lover of many genres) and things (he was a master fixer and loved to know how everything worked). Through his many years in Jermyn he touched countless lives and impacted many personally when they were facing their own struggles or celebrating their joys. He was quick-witted; always telling a joke, limerick or story. He loved his dogs and over the years put on many miles walking them around the streets of Jermyn. He kept in close touch with the goings-on about town that way. In his neighborhood, those lucky to live nearby knew they could count on Gail as he treated them like family. Most notably he was welcoming and accepting of all and the family home was always full of laughter, food and joy. Gail and Shirley were fixtures on their front porch in the summer months, greeting everyone who wandered by to sit and stay a while.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mable Rosemergey; and his three brothers, James, Delmarwade and Franklin (Pete) Rosemergey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Rosemergey; and his four children, Mindy White and husband, Jack; William Rosemergey; Beth Rosemergey and husband, Chuck Orth; Amy Davidson and husband, Will. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Joshua, Brooke and Tess Davidson, Christopher and Wesley Orth; many nieces and nephews; his personal Uber-driver, nephew, Teddy Chrusch; and "adopted" daughter, Nancy Edmunds.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church, 510 Washington Ave., Jermyn, to be conducted by Pastor Linda Eckersley. Friends and family may visit Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Charles A. Battenberg Funeral Home, Jermyn. Interment, Jermyn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Nadine Cenci Marchegiani Foundation or a charity of choice.
The family wishes to thank all of the members of his health care team, including Dr. Linda Thomas Hemak, Dr. Lisa Thomas, Regional Medical Center nursing staff and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
