George Semian Obituary

George Semian Jr., 89, of Taylor, passed into eternal rest on Thursday surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Mary Kilvitis.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late George Semian and the late Mary Dretar Semian Marcinowski and was a graduate of West Scranton High School, class of 1951. George operated his own electrical contracting business and in 1996, he retired from Clarks Summit State Hospital.

He was a lifelong parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Scranton and he was a 50 year member of Acacia Lodge, #579, Taylor. For many years, he coached and was an officer for the Taylor Little League and biddy basketball teams. The most important thing in his life was providing for his family and he took great pleasure in watching his family grow and made it a point to be there to cheer them on in all of their endeavors. In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and one of his favorite destinations was Las Vegas.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, George III and wife, Antoinette; two daughters, Mary Lynn Hewitt and Gayle Martino and husband, Dr. James; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Ameika, Marissa Lenio, Amanda Edwards, Justin, Ryan and Michael Hewitt, Alexa, Jimmy and Abby Martino; eleven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Makaela, Rylee, Justin, Jamie, Abryanna Hewitt; Arya and Adam Ameika, Alessia and Tristan Lenio and Matthew Edwards.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sonja Semian; his stepfather, Joseph Marcinowski; and a son-in-law, Michael Hewitt.

The family would like to thank the staff of Guardian Health Care and Compassionate Care Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

Family and friends are invited to attend George's funeral, which will begin on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by services at 10 a.m. in Sts.
