James P. Secor Sr., of Taylor, entered into eternal rest on Friday surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Martha Ann Churilla.
Born in Taylor, he was the son of the late John and Agnes Walsh Secor. He was educated in Old Forge and Taylor schools, graduating in 1960 from Taylor High School, where he was a member of the football team. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. Jim was stationed first in South Carolina and later in Germany during the Vietnam era. He was a senior wireman specialist 4 as part of the 82nd Airborne Unit.
Jim was an over-the-road truck driver for 45 years. He began his career in 1967 with transporting steel to New York City for the building of the World Trade Center. He also hauled Anheuser-Bush for Graziano Trucking, Old Forge. He began working for Roadway Express, Tannersville, in 1978. During his tenure, Jim was proud to be recognized for driving more than two million individual safe miles. For many years, he served as a union steward, for Teamsters Local 229 until the time of his retirement from Roadway in 2007.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Earl) Talarico, Old Forge; three sons, Jim Jr. (Leah), Old Forge; Joseph (Melanie), Moosic; and Charlie (Maria), Dickson City; grandchildren, Samantha (Steve), Sabrina (Ruslan), Earl III, Jessica, Gracie, Natalie, Rylie, Mandy and Stavros; a sister, Mary Price, Scranton; brother-in-law, Joe (Pat) Churilla, Scranton; sisters-in-law, Audrey Palickar, Spring Brook and Marianne (Jerry) Sheridan, Scranton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack (Carol) Secor.

Family and friends are invited to attend Jim's Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica, 1233 St. Ann's St. Interment with military honors will follow in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cemetery, Garfield Avenue, Scranton. Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions in Jim's name be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit.
