John Memo Obituary

John J. Memo Jr., 84, of Dickson City, died Friday evening at the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife, the former Helen Rokoszewski, died July 7, 1997.

Born in Dickson City, son of the late John Sr. and Mary Polomsky Memo, he was a graduate of Dickson City High School and he served with the Army.

John owned and operated Memo Restaurant, Dickson City, for many years. He also worked for Joseph's Mobile Homes and later Shorten Homes. He also worked for a time as a deep-sea diver in East Orange, N.J.

John was a past master of King Solomon Lodge No. 584, Dunmore, and a current member of Kingsbury Lodge No. 466, Olyphant. He was also a member of Keystone Consistory, where he served as thrice potent master and most wise master. He received the Meritorious Service Award and Citation of Loyalty and Dedication. In the York Rite Bodies, John was Knight York Cross of Honor presiding officer. He received the KYCH honor in the York Rite. John was a member of Williamsport Conclave Red Cross of Constantine and Northeastern York Rite College No. 102, Towanda, and Louis Watres AMD Council No. 266. He was a past monarch of AAHMES Grotto, Binghamton, N.Y. John was past grand tall of NEPA Forest No. 137, Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was a member of IREM Shriners International, where he served as past president of the Shepherds Unit.

He was a caring father, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and NASCAR. A car enthusiast, he started a local club called the Road Runners, a citizens' band radio and sports car club. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are a son, John Paul Memo, Dickson City; sisters, Delores Piersimoni, Dickson City; Catherine Golzak and husband, Ronald, Scott Twp.; and Joann Sanderson and husband, James, Dickson City; many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Memo; and sisters, Marie Sluko and Irene Memo.

The funeral with military honors will be Wednesday with a blessing service at 10 a.m. in the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City. Entombment, St. Mary's Mausoleum, Dickson City.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Kingsbury Lodge 466 will conduct services at 7:30.
