Mark Boock Obituary

Mark Boock, 57, a lifelong resident of South Scranton, died Saturday when stricken ill while photographing the Scranton Fire Department fighting a fire in South Scranton. He and his wife, the former MaryAnn Crolick, celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on Saturday.

Born in Scranton, son of Gloria Biggs Boock, Scranton, and the late William G. "Buddy" Boock, he was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, was educated in the Scranton public school system and graduated from Scranton Technical High School, class of 1970. He graduated from Johnson School of Technology as a carpenter and cabinetmaker, class of 1973, and the Armstrong Flooring School Installation of Flooring, class of 1973. He was a founding member and past president of the Anthracite Post Card Club, a member of the Lackawanna Historical Society and an honorary member of the International Association of Firefighters, Scranton Local 60. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker for 37 years, working for American Cabinet, Haynos Kitchens, Gleason Kitchens and most recently, Quaker Maid Kitchen as a customer service representative.

He had a passion for Scranton history, with special interest in the Fire Department. He was recognized as the historian of the Fire Department, often receiving requests for information on older members. He wrote two books about the Fire Department, as he wanted to permanently document its history, "The Pictorial History of the Scranton Fire Department," in 1988 and "Where Duty Calls, There You Will Find Us — Firefighting in Scranton, PA," in 1996.

He was a great advocate for the Fire Department and worked to document and preserve its history. He was often seen at the scene of Scranton fires and attended their various functions to capture the moments on film. He has passed on his love of Scranton history and the Fire Department to his sons, who will carry on the tradition in his loving memory.

He was the proud owner of a 1929 Brockway fire engine and had a great love of music, spending weekends searching for something new to add to his collection of music.

Despite his medical challenges, he was known for his wit and keen sense of humor. He was a loving, caring and generous husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Also surviving are two sons, William G. Boock and wife, Darlene, Scranton; and Gregory J. Boock, Scranton; two grandchildren, William Mark Boock and Avah Mary Boock; a brother, Bruce Boock, Mountaintop; an aunt, Ethel Sealey, Scranton; cousins, nieces, nephews and his furry son, Benjy. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Sandra Boock; and two aunts, Elva Walsh and Louise Kuhn.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with Mass at 9:30 in St. Francis of Assisi Church., 630 Genet St., Scranton. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday 3 to 8 p.m. Go to www.miller beanfh.com/ for funeral information, directions, or to leave an online condolence.

I wanted to tell how I feel about this man that I call "Dad" Since I will never have the courage to stand up at church tomorrow and say what I feel I think here is a good place! I once heard someone say that anybody can be a Father, but it takes a special person to be a "DAD" Well in the 13 years that I have spent with my husband Bill. Mark has become my "DAD" and I can never tell in words how much he has meant to me over the years! He, and Mom always treated me as one of there children, and often told me that I was the daughter they never had! There is so much in my mind and heart right now that I want to write here, but I would need a whole week to get through it all!!! So Dad thank you for being the best Dad a girl could ever ask for, and for being the perfect Papa to our children! We will miss you more than any word could ever say, and I will Love you and carry you in my heart for the rest of my life!!!

Mary Ann & Family,
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to all of you on your untimely loss of Mark. Although it's been many years Mary Ann, since we've been in touch, I knew you and Mark from high school and know how much you love him. He was and always will be the great love of your life. There are no words that I can say to take away your pain and anguish, but I pray that you find great comfort in all the wonderful memories you shared throughout the years. My heart goes out to all of you and your entire family.

My husband and I lost our son Corey (20) and his wife Michelle (22) on 8/17/2003, less than 3 months after they were married. Our hearts still ache with pain, sadness and emptiness and always will. When you love someone so deeply, that love will never fade.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, especially through the difficult days ahead. God bless and comfort you and your family.

Sincerely,
Donna (Carter) James

My condolences go out to the Boock family. I was a classmate of Mark's from grade school until we graduated at Scranton Tech Class of 1970. Mark was a friend of mine while in school but I lost track of him after we graduated. I often wondered where he was and if he still lived in the house next to the fire station on Cedar Ave. I also remember his younger brother Bruce. Mark sounds like he accomplished much in life and gave back more to the community he loved. May he RIP.
