Robert Curley Obituary

Dr. Robert M. Curley died at home with his wife after a brief illness while on Commonwealth Home Hospice. His wife and best friend is the former Janae Rehder.

Born in Providence, R.I., son of the late Francis and Ellen Lennon Curley, he was a graduate of LaSalle Academy, Providence, R.I.; Boston College and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served his internship at the Hospital of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, his residency in internal medicine at Metropolitan Hospital, and his fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Hahnemann University Hospital. He was board-certified and a member of the American College of Osteopathic Internal Medicine. He retired from Hematology and Oncology Associates, where he was known as the compassionate doc with the cowboy boots and hat. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps, serving during the Vietnam War.

He was a devoted Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Bruins fan. He had many hobbies, including golfing, gardening, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed riding his Harley, relaxing by the pool and vacationing in Mexico. He played hockey well into his 50s at the Ice Box in Pittston. He was an avid reader and history buff. His favorite places to unwind after a long day's work with his wife and friends were Cooper's Seafood House and the J&J, where there was always a barstool waiting. He was a true animal lover and adored his dogs. He was always seen walking them in the neighborhood and taking them for rides in his F150 with ZZ Top on the radio.

He was a kind and devoted husband and loved spending time with his granddaughter. She always brought the biggest twinkle to his eye along with her loving parents. He had a great personality and could strike up a conversation with anyone at any time. He had friends of all ages and he will be dearly missed.

Also surviving are sons, Ryan Curley and his wife, Felice, and their daughter, Myonna Liara; and Dr. Brendan Curley and his wife, Angaly; a sister, Mary Ann; and a brother, James.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael.

Per Robert's request, there will be no viewing or service hours. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Cremation took place at the Lake Region Crematory at James Wilson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411 or Pike County Humane Society, P.O. Box 255, Milford, PA 18337.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Curley's passing. He was my doctor when I went through cancer the first time and he made me feel like I was his only patient. He was a wonderful doctor. You could talk to him about anything. Just a nice guy! I hope he is riding his Harley and having a drink!!!

Dear Janea and family, we are so sorry to hear of Dr. Curly's passing. We both wish we could be there or do something for all of you. He was such a kind man and fantastic Doctor. He always put a smile on our face and made us laugh. It was a pleasure working with him and calling him our friend. May you all find peace in such a difficult time. Please let us know if we can do anything for you.

I was so sorry to read of your husband's passing. I know he shared many happy times at Cooper's on Thurs. nights with Jack and the group. I'm sure he and Jack are having a good time now retelling many stories. Jean Boylan
