Zachary Urda Obituary

Zachary Christian Urda, 19, of Whites Crossing, Carbondale Twp., died Monday at home.

Zachary was the son of Timothy E. and Debra A. Rosencrans Urda. He attended the NHS School for Autism and was employed by Frank's Place, Simpson.

Zachary was a kind soul who loved his family. He enjoyed playing Pokémon, Yugi-oh, Legos and Nintendo games and was an avid reader. He was loved by his whole family, and his infectious smile brightened everyone's day.

Zach was an autistic child. He wore this disability as a badge of honor. Zach took great pride in helping others like him, especially his younger brother, Nico, and his little sister, Shay. Zach always wanted to bring awareness to this mental disease, and we all feel this to be true.

He is also survived by two brothers, Matthew and Nicolas; and two sisters, Shelby and Shaylin; his maternal grandmother, Ann Marie Lewis, at home; and paternal grandparents, George and Gloria Urda, Chapman Lake; and Charles and Jill Puntar, Union Dale; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jack Rosencrans.

A service of remembrance and celebration of Zachary's life will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Simpson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Autism Center, 1401 Mulberry St., Scranton, PA 18510.

The Urda family along with Zach will forever be in my condolences. I knew him when I was twelve years old in high school and he often talked to me and treated me so kindly. He was an absolutely wonderful person, and he left a huge memory in my heart. Rest in Peace to his wonderful soul, and let us hope the Urda family heal in peace as well. Thank you for giving us your amazing son in the very beginning.

Dear Tim and Family,
This is Tony Nicosia, we worked together at the Holiday Inn many many years ago. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost touch with you. Never knew how you grew and created such a beautiful family. I'm moved deeply by your loss as I have a wonderful cousin who has non verbal autism and is such a beautiful part of our lives. He's never spoken in his 26 years of life. My partner has severe Asbergers a form of autism. Such a difficult life but I love him more than life itself. So I understand. I remember once during those Holiday Inn years one of the banquet waiters committed suicide. We all went yo the viewing together. You were his supervisor. You made a short speech to all of us. Remember those kids looked up to you. You said never hold anything inside. Talk to someone. If you're holding something inside share it with someone you trust. Life is too precious to give up. I love you all. Tim, you were strong then about 20 years ago and you're even stronger now. God bless you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
