Zipora "Zipi" Weinberg, 88, of Clarks Summit, died early Thursday at the Elan Skilled Nursing after an illness. She was married to her husband, Al Weinberg, for 50 years.
Born in Tel-Aviv, she served as a sergeant in the I.D.F. Shortly thereafter she spent a year assigned to the Israeli Embassy in London. Zipi later became the manager for Belkin Advertising Agency, the largest of its type in Israel.
While residing in Clarks Summit, Zipi taught Hebrew School at both Temple Israel and Temple Hessed in Scranton. She was a member of the Chatiner's, Hadassah, the Jewish Home Auxiliary, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Ohav Tzedek synagogue.
Zipi was a spirited person, full of life, who raised a proud Jewish family. She had a sharp sense of humor, possessed wisdom and gave insightful advice. She cared deeply about her family, had a deep connection to her Jewishness and enjoyed the theater and television.
Zipi was a talented homemaker and enjoyed raising her family. She was always there for her husband, son and grandchildren. She spent many enjoyable summers at Chapman Lake. Prior to retirement, she enjoyed working in retail for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Rabbi Ilan Weinberg and wife, Devorah, of Kingston, Pa.; grandchildren, Yehuda, Masha, Sara, Chaya, Chana Bracha and Shaina. She was deeply loved by her grandchildren.
Zipi was one of seven children, and is survived by one sister, Batsheva and family, currently residing in Ramat-Gan, Israel.
A graveside funeral service will held Friday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m., at the Dalton Jewish Cemetery, 105 Shoemaker Road, Dalton, Pa., Chatiner section.
Shiva will be observed Monday-Thursday, at the home of Rabbi Ilan Weinberg, 161 James St., Kingston, Pa.
