Ronald Pryor Obituary

Ronald "Red" Pryor

Port Huron

Ronald "Red" Pryor, 85, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013.

He was born December 27, 1927 to the late Gordon and Esther Pryor.  He married Janice Andrews Messenger on November 28, 1981 in Goulden Memorial Chapel of Grace Episcopal Church, Port Huron.

Mr. Pryor served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then attended barber college in Flint. He worked at barbershops in Port Huron, Algonac and Utica before owning his own shop in Lexington for 11 years. While there, Ron was a member of the Lions Club for 10 years, served as a volunteer fireman and as a member of Village Council, helping to develop Lexington Harbor. He moved his shop to Port Huron and was in various locations before retiring after 62 years of barbering. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, umpiring for church and city softball leagues and being a goal judge for Port Huron Flags hockey. Ron was on the Associate Vestry at Grace Church and was a youth group advisor with his wife, Janice. He was a member of American Legion Charles Hammond Post #8, V.F.W. Charles Schoor Post #796 and a former member of the American Legion Dance Club. Ron enjoyed playing cards with the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) group at the American Legion. He was also a big fan of the Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. He made many friends while wintering in Florida for the past 12 years in St. Pete Beach and Lakeland. Ron's sense of humor and generous spirit will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; six children, William Pryor, Cheryl Zielke, Gordon Pryor, Lori Pryor, Cheri (Robert) Nicholas and Dennis (Darla) Messenger; 14 grandchildren, including Ryan Messenger, Courtney Messenger, Lydia Nicholas and Gabbi Nicholas; and 14 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council and the U.S. Navy.
