Vera M. Gostinger

Vera M. Gostinger Port Huron Twp. Vera M. Gostinger, 87, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab following a long illness. She was born March 13, 1923 in Marine City, grew up in St. Clair, and graduated from St. Clair High School in 1941. On October 21, 1943, Vera married Louis V. Gostinger in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Port Huron. She worked at Cunningham Drug Store in Port Huron for many years, and also operated her own catering business. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Parish and the St. Ann's Altar Society. She and her husband, Louis, were members of the Port Huron Elks Club. She was very involved with the Girl Scouts and many other organizations throughout the Blue Water Area. Vera is survived by her four children and their spouses, Carol and Thomas Lapish of Kimball, Linda and Robert Smith of Port Huron, Louis and Pamela Gostinger Jr. of Harbor Springs, and Kathy Jo and Thomas Davanzo of Castle Rock, CO; ten grandchildren, Todd Lapish, Carrie Schneider, Erik (Lacy) Smith, Justin (Andrea) Smith, Amy (Luke) Lyons, Andrew Smith, Kyle Gostinger, Tyler Gostinger, Alyssa Davanzo, and Amanda Davanzo; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; her brother, Francis Ernst; three sisters-in-law, Joyce Ernst, Mildred Gostinger, and Dorothy Gostinger; her brother-in-law, Martin "Bob" Gostinger; and several nieces and nephews. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, who died December 10, 2008. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Rose (Alfred) Hoover and Sylvia (Cecil) Hoover, and her brother, Percy Ernst. Vera was well known for her smile and her many random acts of kindness to everyone she met. Her passion in life was her immanent love for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen Catholic Church preceded by one hour of visitation. The Rev. Fr. Brian Cokonougher will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
