Forrest Cramer Obituary

Forrest "Frosty" Eugene Cramer, Sr.

DeRidder - Forrest "Frosty" Eugene Cramer, Sr., age 95, of DeRidder, LA, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018, in Alexandria, Louisiana. Frosty was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and they always came first. His favorite saying was, "All is right with the world if you have a smile on your face and a song in your heart." He lived that way every day.

Frosty was born December 20, 1922, in Franklin, Ohio to Orville and Katy "Catherine" Cramer. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dona; his parents; brothers, Orville "Red" Cramer, Jr., Benjamin Cramer; sister, Margaret Cramer Sparks; and grandson, Kevin Malone.

Frosty is survived by four children, Forrest "Skeeter" Cramer, Jr. (Suzanne), Colchester, CT; Virginia "Ginny" Baker (Joseph), LeCompte, LA; Richard Cramer (Irene), Little Rock, AR; and Ronald Cramer (Sheila), Camano Island, WA; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Frosty served in the Army/Air Corps during World War II as a Gunnery instructor at Tonopha NV, where he met and married the love of his life, Dona Ferguson, in 1944. After his service to his country, he moved his family to Washington and began his career in the paper making business as an electrician. He lived and worked as a papermaker in Longview, WA, Pilot Rock, OR, and Pasco, WA (where he began his long career with Boise Cascade). He then transferred to DeRidder, LA in 1968, to help build that mill. As a manager, he ran paper mills on the Island of Bataan, Philippines, New Brunswick, Canada, and Elizabeth, LA, which he always said was the best and most fulfilling of his career. He loved that mill and had a high regard and respect for all the people that worked there. He then returned to the mill in DeRidder and retired in 1985.

Frosty also was active in the Boy Scouts, Rotary, on the Board of the fire department, USO Center and Beauregard Country Club. He loved to play golf, travel and work in his shop, he was a master woodworker, and loved to build model airplanes from the WW I and WW II eras.

Services will be handled through Kramer Funeral Home, Alexandria, LA. Family and friends will be gathering for fellowship, food and celebration of Frosty's life to be held on Saturday, January 13 th from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 406 Shirley Street, DeRidder, LA. Rev. Lamar Oliver will lead a memorial service at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers please send memorials to the DeRidder USO War Room Museum, 701 S. Pine St, DeRidder, LA 70634, Compassionate Care Hospice, 5417 Jackson Street, Suite B, Alexandria, LA 71303, or a charity of your choice.
