Philip Spruell Obituary

Philip "Phil" Wesley Spruell

Metairie - Philip "Phil" Wesley Spruell, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2018 in Metairie, Louisiana.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kristin Eppling Spruell; his son, Tommy Spruell; his mother, Linda Spruell Sheffield; sister, Karen Spruell; brother, David Spruell; stepsister, Susan Matthews; brother-in-law, Tommy Eppling, five nephews and seven nieces.

Phil is preceded in death by his son, Patrick Spruell; his father, Walter Spruell; and sister-in-law, Kathy Eppling.

Phil was born and raised in Alexandria, Louisiana. He graduated from Bolton High School before attending Louisiana Tech University. Phil was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers, although his support of his own sons' sports endeavors may have rivaled this passion. He enjoyed a long career in the oil industry where he made many lifelong friends. There's no doubt he will be missed, and this world will not be the same without Phil Spruell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 12:00 noon until the service begins.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Children's Bureau of New Orleans, www.childrens-bureau.com, where Phil was a member of the board of directors and past president.

Kristin and Tommy, I am very sorry for your loss. Phil was a really nice guy. I met him when he came in the office to see his brother in law, Tommy. I was really impressed that he always remembered my name. I will miss seeing and hearing him but know he is in a better place and without any pain. If you need someone to listen or just a friend, please know you can reach me anytime at Tommy's office and that includes you too Little Tommy.

To the Spruell family, I hope knowing that you're in the thoughts and prayers of many bring a measure of comfort. We look forward to the time when all things that cause sickness and death will be eradicated by God's Kingdom. - Matthew 6:9-10

Phil was larger than life and you always knew immediately when he walked in a room. His boisterous personality and great laugh was unmistakable. Phil would visit us often when he came to Houston and he would do anything for his Aunt Kitty. She loved him dearly. I will miss Phil so much and I am so honored to be his cousin or "cuz" as Phil always said. Rest in peace sweet Phil. I love you, Susan
