George Kent Obituary

CHARLESTOWN - Husband, father, organist, choirmaster, conductor, and music professor George E. Kent of Charlestown, Rhode Island died peacefully at his home overlooking Quonochontaug Pond on June 17, 2025. He was 88 years old. With him were his wife Lynn, his children Peter, Susan, David, and Jennie, and many of his ten grandchildren. Bobbing quietly nearby was his lobster boat, Petrel. He will go out to sea one last time and join his parents, George Sr. and Edwina, his brother Stuart, and his daughter Laura Kent Hynes.

Services for Mr. Kent will be held on July 11, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Christ Church, Westerly, RI, with a celebration of life to follow at Wilcox Park.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI

George was a very popular clinician at St. Dunstan's College Conference over the years. He taught us all so much and introduced so much good music. The organists and choral directors who had contact with him over the years in Newport and Providence owe him an enormous tribute. Brian Larkin, director ret.
