Arthur Chase Obituary

ARTHUR MATTOX CHASE Art passed away at his home with his family by his side Thursday, January 11th, 2018. He was born in Fortuna on January 28, 1926 to Arthur Davis and Mae Mattox Chase and raised on the Chase ranch above College of Redwoods. He attended Fields Landing School and graduated from Eureka High in 1944. Art enlisted in the Army Air Corp right after high school and returned to Eureka after his discharge. He attended Humboldt State and graduated from Oregon State University in 1951, He went to work for his longtime friend Bob Mathews Jr. where he met and married Della Sears in 1954. They had 4 children. Family always came first and he put a special touch on so many everyday things, making them some of our best memories. After retirement from Peterson Tractor, he tried acting in the Redwood Curtain production; It's a Wonderful Life playing Uncle Billy. In 2012, he was able to go on one of the first Honor Flights and enjoyed every minute, except when at the airport, they confiscated the Lord Calvert from his suitcase. Art is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, son Steve of Eureka, Arthur S. (Tina) of Red bluff, daughters Christina of Arcata, Alisa Cox of Rexberg, Idaho, 13 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, sisters LaRue Parsons of Missions Viejo, Barbara Corner, of Eureka, Carol Kinser of Fortuna, and sister-in law Lori Chase Franz of Seattle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Art was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry, sisters Dorothy Locker and Joy Chase and grandson Logan Arthur Cox. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Donations may be made to your favorite charity. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com

What to say about a man who was more of a father to me than my own. He was there at EVERY basketball game, choir performance, track meet, birthday and holiday throughout my life. He was dedicated, stubborn, patriotic, hilarious, generous, a hard worker, intelligent and loving. He endured a lot over his 92 years of life and I couldn't be more proud to call him my Papa. God be with you 'til we meet again.

Its taken me a few weeks to put into words what was in my heart and what wanted to say on here. When I was a little girl I would get up on my dads lap and eat breakfast with him. I remember he always has coffee with cream and sugar. I no longer drink coffee, but I still can remember what it tasted like. I was able to tell him one last time, in the hospital, that "he was the best daddy in the whole wide wide world." He gave me a little smile and laughed. It was something he would have us kids say often when he had something we really wanted. Later in life when I started having my own children he would have them repeat the same thing, using papa instead. It made me so happy to watch him interact with my children. I loved watching him laugh at silly things they would say or do. He was so generous with them. He would take them to the movies, out to fancy dinners(with my mom), to giants games, skiing, to McDonalds, had them over for sleepovers, shooting/hunting, getting Christmas trees, take the girls shopping for fancy dresses, plant flowers in the spring, and so so many more things. He cared about their grades, sports, school activities, and what was going on it their lives. He taught me so many things. How to maintain a car, how to fix a roof, plumbing, electrical, how to use a paint brush correctly. He also taught me honesty, hard work, and integrity. He taught me to always follow through on your responsibilities. He went out of his way often, for those that he loved. He was the smartest man I knew. His greatest quality was to love unconditionally. Feel so blessed to be a recipient of that. I will miss you every day, until we meet again. I love you Daddy. Lisa

What a gentleman! Loved to visit & hear many fun & funny stories about his long & filled life. He was amust have been a character to work with having that great sense of humor - such a jokester.
What a hilarious memory we have of that trip to Petrolia for the 61st Anniversary. When Art broke out in song (remembering every word exactly) I laughed so hard it hurt. Who knew he could croon Moon River like he did doing karaoke! That man sang beautifully.
We won't forget him & will carry on our friendship with Sweet Della & the rest of his loving family.
Our lives are enriched having known him. Rest In Peace, Art.

Art Chase, or better known as PAPA to all of us passed on January 11 at 11:29 pm with his family by his side. Papa I have so many personal memories that you made so special. Hunting in the Yolla Bullies with Ed Lewis and spending the night in a horse tralor to get out of the rain, all the Giants games which just won't feel the same ever again, every holiday with you and grandma,Brook trails, fern canyon, or our last few games of golf with Jamie up in Oregon. You and Grandma never missed a single football game I played no matter the distance you had to travel. I wonder now how trips back home will be? I had 43 wonderful years to spend with you and I find my self lucky yet mad I have no more. I sat with you and held your hand , I tried to say all I had to say but there's just not enough lifetimes . I feel for my own children, Chase and Brayden who never got enough time with you, and my youngest 4 year old Taylor who will never have the chance to know the special person you truly are in all our hearts. Your sense of humor, your kindness, caring, all your advise, our phone calls about sports , politics ,or just to talk . Thanks for always being there Papa lover you forever Whipper p.s. BOYS WILL BE BOYS

Art was a faithful servant to his community. Boy Scout Troop 15 always appreciated Art's attendance at Courts of Honor, his willingness to serve on Boards of Review, and his Kiwanis activities. Art will be missed by many. Thank you, Art's family, for sharing him with the world.

Della, Steve and family: I am so very sorry to read of Art's passing. He was such a neat man with a wonderful warm smile and greeting when he saw you. He also had so much fun bowling in league at Broadway Lanes when he worked at Peterson Tractor, they had such a great time and I loved keeping score for them. Art left you with wonderful stories and memories to hold on to and cherish. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him, because to know Art was to love him. My sincere condolences to the family and please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
