Henry (Hank) Jenkins was born March 8, 1936, in Independence, Oregon. He moved to the Humboldt County area in 1952 with his family at the age of sixteen. He attended Fortuna Union High School and later joined the Marine Corp. where he served as a cook. He married Annie Askren and raised three children in Fortuna while driving truck for Don Nolan for over twenty years.
After the death of his wife Annie, he later married Sandy Endicott and went to work driving truck for Palco until he retired in 2000. His love for driving truck was carried down to his son Chuck, who Hank eventually went to work for and helped build a thriving trucking business. Hank drove truck for his son Chuck until he fell ill in 2006. He felt blessed to have loved what he did for well over fifty years.
Hanks other passion was trapshooting. He was an avid contender and served as president of the Eel River Trap Club for many years. He reached a miles stone in 2001 after shooting his 50,000th registered target and over the years was awarded many buckles, plaques and trophies. His love for animals was overwhelming. He had several cats that he truly loved and was known for even taming wild raccoons into his living room with cookies. Hank never met a stranger in his life and his outgoing and friendly personality won the hearts of hundreds of people that today call Hank their friends. We will all miss him dearly but will forever remember that friendly, loving smile. So long “Gummer"!
Hank is preceded in death by his father, Robert Jenkins; his mother, Ada Valdez; and step-mother, Francis Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Jenkins; sisters, Emily Kern and Laura (Pudge) Truttman; brother, Chuck (Buddy) Jenkins; sons, Chuck Jenkins and wife Laurie, Henry (Porky) Jenkins and wife Julie; daughter, Patricia Bones; step-children, Steve Durant and wife Laurie, Marilee Agajanian and husband Sam, and Paula Dias; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hank peacefully passed away on November 14, 2007, in his home with his close family by his side. He will be missed by all!
There will be a potluck for friends and family at the Eel River Trap Club on Saturday November 17, 2007, at 12:30 p.m. Everyone who knew Hank is welcome to attend.
Arrangements under the direction of Goble’s Fortuna Mortuary, Inc., Fortuna, CA.
