Clyde L. Hook

CHELSEA - Clyde L. Hook, 86, died Monday, July 6, 2015, at his home in Chelsea, Vermont.

He was born April 18, 1929, in Matawan, New Jersey, the son of Clarence M. and Florence C. (Craft) Hook. He attended school in Chelsea, graduating in 1947 from Chelsea High School. On May 11, 1951, he married Bettyann LaFrancis, of Chelsea. They lived all their 64 years of marriage in Chelsea where they raised their family.

Clyde had many jobs throughout his life. From 1939 to 1946 he worked as an electrician with his father; from 1946 to 1996 he owned his own business, Hook's Garage, where he was a mechanic and ran a wrecker service; from 1951 to 1964 he worked at Rands Salvage; and from 1951 to 1992 he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural route driver.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping, tinkering on things, cookouts and spending time with his family and his dog, Pebbles. He had an interest in water and wind power, prompting him to build his own windmill and water wheel.

He is survived by his wife, Bettyann Hook; two sons, Wayne Hook and Bruce Hook, all of Chelsea; two daughters, Patricia Silloway, of Randolph, Vermont, and Shirly Hook, of Braintree, Vermont; 15 grandchildren;13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Melvin Hook, Vernon Hook, Robert Hook and his twin, Claude Hook.

A public graveside memorial service will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the West Hill Cemetery in Chelsea. A celebration of Clyde's life will be held at his pond on Hook Road in Chelsea immediately following the service.
