Sherwood Robinson Obituary

GRANITEVILLE - Bill Robinson, 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the VA Hospital in White River Junction, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He remained active until recently, making his rounds with his wife to Kinney Drugs, Price Chopper and the Wayside Restaurant.

Bill was born in St. Johnsbury on December 21, 1924, the son of William and Elizabeth (Hubbard) Robinson. He served proudly in the Army during WWII, after graduation from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1942. He lived in Danville and married Lorraine McGinnis, of East St. Johnsbury, on October 29, 1950.

Bill worked at Millar Supply in St. Johnsbury until he started work for Warner-Turner Supply selling wholesale plumbing and heating products in 1956, when they moved to Graniteville. The family has lived on Crest Street ever since. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post #10 in Barre and served as an elder at the Presbyterian Church in Graniteville. Bill loved spending time with his family, including the McGinnis side. The family has wonderful memories of camping vacations, as they traveled throughout the country.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine (McGinnis) Robinson, of Graniteville, and three sons, Mahlon and his wife, Leslie, of Northville, New York, Norman and his wife Martha Hicks-Robinson, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Dana and his wife Lori, of Graniteville. Bill has six granddaughters: Mahlon's daughters Shawna and Francesca; Norm's daughters Caitlin and Bridget; and Dana's daughters Brittany and Mkayla; and five great-grandchildren: Carson, Brynn, Isaac, Olivia and Alyza. He was predeceased by brothers Kenneth and Hubbard, of St. Johnsbury, an infant son and grandson Christopher.

Spring graveside services will be held in East St. Johnsbury on Monday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at the Grove Cemetery on US Route 2, just east of East St. Johnsbury village. The Rev. Ann Hockridge will officiate.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the March of Dimes, Vermont Chapter, 57 South Main Street, Waterbury, VT 05676. Memories and condolences may be shared privately at www.saylesfh.com.
