Brett Allen Obituary

H. Brett Allen, 64, of Yuma, AZ and Santa Fe, NM, husband, father, grand father, brother and uncle passed away Wednesday April 3, 2013 at home in Yuma AZ. Brett was born on May 5, 1948 in Wichita KS. He spent his childhood in Hays KS, where he graduated from Hays High School in 1966. He attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins CO, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Robert E Lee Submarine and the USS Flying Fish Submarine. After his service, in 1971, he began his long career as a furniture retailer as an owner in Rick's Furniture, Fossil Creek Galleries and La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries in Fort Collins CO until he retired in 2002. He and his wife, Sue, were wintered and lived in Yuma for 10 years. He also was a realtor at La Quinta and Barkley Ranch for Kammann Development and a realtor at The Palms RV Resort. Brett proudly raised three wonderful children: Bartt (Jessica), Loveland CO; Courtney (Melissa), Denver CO; Travis, Denver CO, with his first wife Donna. Brett married his high school sweetheart, Sue Leary, in 1992. They both indulged Brett's adventurous spirit by raising horses and cattle on their ranch in Mead CO. Brett roped and showed horses, was a creative photographer, avid fisherman, frustrated golfer, voracious reader, uncontested debater, was a chef in his own right and a BBQ master. Sue and Brett were full time RVer's for 15 years making their mark while adding a slew of friends across the US. He was a proud member of the (HOG)Harley Davidson Owners Club, a card carrying member of the NRA, a staunch conservative political junkie and threw legendary parties. Brett was a lover of fine wines and food, art, old classic movies and the wide open spaces. Brett was also known for his quick wit. He definitely made his mark in this world. He is survived by his precious and devoted wife Sue, his sister Linda (Ken ) Nelson, his children, grand children Jace and Noah, his adoring sisters in law, many loving nieces and nephews, and doting 'therapy' dogs Nacho and Chili. A true MAN'S MAN, Brett will be waiting with God in Heaven for us all. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Hospice of Yuma, your local Hospice or the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover, Fort Collins CO on Thursday April 18, 2013 at 10 a.m..
