FERGUSON, Allen Mead, originally of Louisville, Ky., died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, June 25, 2022. Born August 25, 1937, Allen was the son of William Karl Allen Ferguson and Annie Adelia Mead Ferguson. Allen was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Ann Gazlay Ferguson Lamberton. Moving frequently around the country with his father's job, Allen first came to Virginia to attend Washington & Lee University (1960), where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. After graduating W&L, Allen joined the United States Marine Corps before settling in Richmond, Va., where he met and is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Rutherfoord Mercer Ferguson. Together, they raised and are survived by four sons, Allen Mead Ferguson Jr. (sons, Colt and Caleb), Thomas Rutherfoord Ferguson (wife, Katherine and children, Thomas and Anna), William Hume Ferguson and Warren Mercer Ferguson (wife, Kate).
Allen spent over 40 years in his career as an investment banker with the firm Craigie Incorporated, where he was hired in 1968 as a sales trainee and later retired as CEO. With a heart larger than life, Allen gave much of his time to numerous local organizations and non-profits, including the YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, The Valentine Museum, St. Christopher's School and many others. The pride of his world was his wife (who he dearly referred to as "Momma") and his four boys, none of which would follow him into the Marine Corps, a fact he worked hard to cope with. A Richmonder from the moment he met Mary Rutherfoord, Allen never let go of his love for his home state of Kentucky, the Kentucky Wildcats and Kentucky straight bourbon. He will be missed dearly by his family and everyone who loved him and stuck by him through good times and bad.
A memorial service will take place at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Goochland, Va., at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, with a reception to follow in the parish hall. A livestream link to the service will be available at www.blileys.com. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in his memory to St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

Prayers being lifted for Mary Rutherfoord, Allen, Rutherfoord, William, and Mercer for the sure and certain knowledge that their beloved husband and father is with his Lord and Savior.

Allen was a font of wisdom and a great friend who helped guide me through a difficult time. My mom and dad met Allen and Mary Rutherfoord at St. Christopher´s grandparents day. They came away from a few hours together feeling as though they had known him for years. A truly great man...

True... a larger than life personality, an incredibly generous spirit and the most loving of hearts. He made Raymond and my lives richer and fuller in indescribable ways and we count our friendship with Allen & Mary Rutherford, as one of greatest blessings. Heaven just got happier and more fun! I would just like to send my regards to Mrs. Ferguson and the wonderful for men that she and Mr. Ferguson raised. I am honored to have Health set for them many times and some of the boys were growing up. I stayed in touch with Will. I have no words. I will keep Mrs. Ferguson and the boys and their families in my prayers.
