Ann Parrish Obituary

PARRISH, Ann Lipscomb, of Henrico, VA passed away on April 5, 2024, at 97 years of age. She was born on July 2, 1926, in Richmond VA. She was the only child of George Ryder Lipscomb and Kathryn Ellwanger Lipscomb who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her husband of 55 years, William Henry Parrish III.

She is survived by her three sons William Henry Parrish IV, (Cece), George Ryder Parrish (Marty), and Thomas McCreagh Parrish (Liz), her grandchildren, Will Parrish (Ali), Cecelia Parrish (Alex), John Parrish (Carrington), Charlie Parrish, Liza King (Thomas), George Parrish, Tommy Parrish, Libby Parrish and her great grandchildren, Henry Parrish, Lily Parrish, Catherine Parrish, and Thomas King.

She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1943 and went to work at Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. She and Bill were married in 1951, and she soon became a stay-at-home mother devoting herself to her three sons. She spent many an afternoon driving her sons and their classmates to various athletic games around Virginia.

For many years, she served on the Board of Retreat Hospital, she also was a member of the Country Club of Virginia, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, and the Tuckahoe Women's Club.

From her adolescent years through her late teens, she spent her summers in Roanoke, VA with her aunt and uncle, Bill, and Betsy Tilman. They lived on a small farm on the outskirts of Roanoke where Bill raised Pointers for quail hunting and field trials. Ann became quite accomplished at working with animals.

For many years Ann and Bill rented a cottage at Virginia Beach for two weeks in August. This was her "happy place". She continued visiting "The Beach" until the year before she died. She also loved visiting Irvington VA with friends. For 10 years Ann and Bill had a boat at Windmill Point Marina, they fished and took cocktail cruises every evening. They enjoyed having friends visit for the weekend and there was never a dull moment.

A private funeral service will be held with just immediate family attending. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to BSA Troop 400, 1501 Grove Ave Richmond, VA 23220, or to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Avenue, Richmond, VA 23226

Mrs. Parrish always made you feel welcomed when you were in her presence. Although you may not have seen her for years, when you saw her next, you picked up right here you left off. Honest, straight forward and very kind. Heaven is a better place now and Bill got his dancing partner back!
Billy, George and Tomas, you all are in my thoughts and and prayers, Dick Fowlkes

Ann Parrish and husband Bill are the most cherished of our family friends. Their decades of coming to Irvington to visit my grandparents, parents, and my family will be a forever memory. We will miss her greatly, remembering her fondly and forever.
