Barbara Beasley Obituary

Barbara Beasley

June 20, 1937 - September 14, 2024

Barbara Beasley, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Richmond, VA, on September 14, 2024.

Barbara was born June 20, 1937, in Kings Mountain, NC, and grew up in Danville, VA, with her parents, Katie and Hoyt Tate; and siblings, Billy, Cumi, Frances, and Ray. After graduating from George Washington High School in 1956, she moved to Richmond to attend the Stuart Circle School of Nursing, where she graduated with the Class of 1959. Early in her career, she met her future husband, Air Force pilot, Bob Beasley. On May 31, 2024, they celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Bob; their son, Lance; daughter, Anne; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She had a long and distinguished career as Head Nurse Supervisor at Stuart Circle Hospital and later worked at McGuire Veterans Hospital. Barbara was deeply involved in her community, always finding time to volunteer, whether at her children's schools, their swim team, or at her beloved First Unitarian Church.

She was an avid reader, especially of mysteries, and enjoyed traveling, birdwatching, baking, water aerobics, beach-combing, and spending time with her lifelong friends from nursing school.

A memorial service will be planned for later in 2025.

Although it has been many years since I last saw Mrs. Beasley, (she was Ms. Tate to me!) I have fond memories of her being Head Nurse while I was in nursing school. She was always understanding and gave encouragement to all us students because she knew our plight from experience! I am sorry for your loss.
