Cary Doyle Obituary

DOYLE, Cary Tilton Stoever, 86, of Richmond, VA, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Westminster Canterbury on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Cary, Grandma Cary, or GC was a ray of pure sunshine, and after a chat with her, you always felt better.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Lee Scoville Tilton and Anne Cary Tilton, her first husband Dr. Henry vonHoff Stoever, III, her second husband Dr. Robert Alan Doyle, and her brother, Lee Scoville Tilton, Jr.

Cary is survived by her siblings Lloyd Tilton Backstrom (Art), Mary Lee Tilton, and Anne Tilton Warren (John); sister-in-law, Alice Watkins Tilton; sons, Henry vonHoff Stoever, IV (Glenn) of Alexandria, VA and Brude Dickinson Stoever (Ann) of Richmond, VA; her daughter Anne Cary Doyle Boehlje (Sean) of Florence, OR; and her beloved grandchildren Hank, Hannah, and Charlie Stoever; Austin and Patrick Cook; Helen, Brude, and Hill Stoever; and McLane and Cameron Richards.

Cary was born in Charlottesville, VA in 1937. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, VA, in 1956 and Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA, in 1960. Subsequently, she taught in elementary schools in Virginia Beach and Richmond, VA.

While living in Hillsboro Beach, FL, and Carmel, CA, her hobbies included raising lovely songbirds, propagating orchids and roses, and collecting English armorial porcelain. After moving back to Richmond, VA, in 2000, she enjoyed serving as a member of the Kiwanis Club and loved singing with the Heartstrings.

Cary enjoyed her life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren as well as with family and friends. She had the gift of always having a smile on her face and an infectious personality, and her positive spirit would fill a room and was carried into everything she did. When one asked her how she was doing, Cary was known to say, "could not be better." Cary was caring and compassionate, and she was always sure to remind you that "every person has a story."

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of family and friends. As a family member shared, "To know Cary was to love Cary and to be loved by Cary."

The family is grateful for the care from the entire Westminster Canterbury staff, as well as from the Hospice team who cared for her during her brief illness. The love and affection from the residents during her final days were truly remarkable, and she loved spending time with everyone there.

A memorial service will be held at the Spiritual Center at Westminster Canterbury 1600 Westbrook Avenue, Richmond, VA 23227 on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 1 p.m. ET.

In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to Westminster Canterbury via www.WCRichmond.org.

Cary and I had known each other since childhood. She was undoubtedly the MOST
loving, non-judgmental person that I have ever known! I feel so very fortunate to have had her as a close friend for these MANY years and will miss her friendship so very much.

By now, she has certainly been invited to become a member of the " Welcome Committee" and will soon, if not already, be standing at the "Pearly Gates", with the
ever present smile on her face, greeting Newcomers and saying to them "If I can help
you in any way, please let me know". When our time comes, let us hope that she will be
on duty that day to give us a warm, reassuring "Welcome, come on in, this is a great place to live."

Her fellow music loving friend,
Fontaine V.

Mrs. Doyle was an Amazing woman. She remembered every one's birthday and everyone's story. Mrs. Doyle had an Awesome memory. She can repeat a story and remembered all the names. If you were a new Resident at WCR Mrs. Doyle would make sure that Resident knew all they needed to know about WCR. She would even remember other Resident appointments for them, to ensure they never missed any appt. Wow.....I just visited her. Mrs. Doyle was so kool and down to earth. I was Mrs. Doyle's Manicurist/Pedicurist
during my employment at WCR 2016-2022. I also did her Daughter's when she came to town. Sometimes I had the pleasure of doing her hair when Ashley was out. I send condolences to her entire family. I will miss you Mrs. Doyle. Love you Always......MeMe from Salon Services
