Catherine Meagher Obituary

MEAGHER, Catherine Eck, 95, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010. Born in Richmond, Va., she was a daughter of the late Edgar Paul Eck and Mary Pohlig Eck. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Meagher Sr.; her brothers, William J. Eck, Edgar C. Eck, and M. Francis Eck; and her grandson, J. Scott Meagher. She is survived by her sister, Mary E. Broach; her children, John J. Meagher Jr. and his wife, Constance, J. Foster Meagher and his partner, Linda Marks, Robert A. Meagher and his partner, Allen Ammons, Michael G. Meagher and his wife, Eileen, and Elizabeth M. Byrd and her husband, Lloyd; her granddaughters, Anne E. Meagher and Mollie M. Brookshire and her husband, Blake; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Meagher was a lifetime member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, a former member of the Catholic Women's Club, and a former volunteer at the St. Sophia's Home of Little Sisters of the Poor. A wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, and a tower of strength, she touched the lives of everyone she met. She gave freely of her time and talents. Guiding us well, she was always there whether with a kind word or a joke, she knew just what to say. She loved to travel and see the world around her. Most of all, she loved us with her whole heart and being. Having her family around her were the times she cherished most. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where a Christian Wake service will follow at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon Wednesday, April 28, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

I was very saddened upon reading about your mother's passing. I was in Ireland and did not know until this past Sunday when reading the saved newspapers. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Having lost my mom a few years ago, I know what you are going through. Peace and love to you all.

Jack, Susan and I wanted to send you note to let you know that we are thinking of you and family. Having had my Mom around for 90 years I know how much stronger your Bond grows during latter part of their life. Fortunately she was close to you so you could see and talk to her on daily basis. Knowing you and kind of person you are, I am sure she loved you dearly and was so so proud of you and type Father and Husband you turned out to be. You can share in that knowlege as you think about her in future. I know at certain times of year my Mother pops in my mind and very grateful smile and warmth takes over . I know you will remember wonderful times and love that existed between both of you. My and Susan's thoughts, support and love are with you, please express our feelings to all of your family.
