Charles Omick Obituary

OMICK, Charles "Chuck" Victor, 75, of Lawrenceville, Va., departed this life on April 4, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Felicia; son, Charlie; and son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Joey, Lara and Charlie; his brothers-in-law, James Vergara (Gayle), Joe Vergara (Cindy), George Vergara (Dianne) and Kevin Vergara; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Shirley Omick. Born on September 10, 1944 in Flint, Mich., he moved to Lawrenceville, Va. in 1991, where he resided until his death. Chuck attended the University of Michigan in Flint and Hurley Medical Center, where he received his degree in Nurse Anesthesia. He proudly served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and was the head nurse in the Emergency Triage at the 12th Evac Hospital, Cu Chi, Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Richmond, Va. and worked as a nurse anesthetist at St. Mary's Hospital and Retreat Hospital. He also taught nurse anesthesia at VCU/MCV. In 1990, he began his long tenure at Greensville Memorial Hospital in Emporia (Bon Secours - Southern Virginia Medical Center) until he retired in 2017 due to illness. Chuck was dearly loved by his family and everyone he met. He was kind, thoughtful and always had a smile on his face. He truly cared about people and always made them feel important. He loved to have a good time and always made everyone around him have fun. He even made going to the grocery store an adventure. He was the life of the party. Chuck was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings Hockey fan. He loved watching his sons play sports while growing up. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and cooking. He made sure that both sons knew how to cook and the three would cook together whenever they had the chance. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family just hanging out. Family and God were the two most important things in his life. He loved to travel to Italy and his two favorite places were the Piazza della Signoria and the Basilica of Santa Croce, both in Florence. He loved listening and singing along to all types of music. His favorite tenor was Andrea Bocelli. In 2019, Chuck, along with his wife, was able to realize his dream to see Bocelli in concert in Lajatico, Italy. Chuck was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, Va. A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 29 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Va. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held at 12 noon on Friday, April 30 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 823 Cathedral Place, Richmond, Va. Burial will immediately follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1400 S. Randolph St. In lieu of flowers, please donate to VCU Massey Cancer Center, P.O. Felicia: I am so sorry to hear about Chuck. I was the secretary in the O.R. at Retreat Hospital in the 80's. My husband passed away in 2017. I am on Facebook. Let me know if I can do anything for you and your family.
