David Richardson Hynson Sr.

David Hynson Obituary

HYNSON SR., David Richardson, 86, of Ashland, Va., formerly of Easton, Md., and Battleboro, N.C., died Friday, September 22, 2023, after a three-year battle with cancer.

A U.S. Army veteran, David served with the 17th Signal Battalion as a cryptographer. He moved to Virginia with his family in 1965, becoming a franchised distributor for Charles Machine Works of Oklahoma, and owner/operator of Ditch Witch of Virginia. After leaving Ditch Witch, he began farming and in 1976 obtained a US Patent for his Bale Handling Apparatus. He then enjoyed many years in tool sales, traveling and making friends along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester W. Hynson Sr., and Mary Tarbutton Hynson; and his brother, Chester W. "Chet" Hynson Jr.

He is survived by his four children, David "Rich" Hynson Jr. and his wife Sandra, Kyle Hynson and his wife Angie, Devan Hynson and his wife Tammy, and Lauren Bradbury and her husband Jeb; nine grandchildren, Danielle Smith (Chris), Ashlynn Nester (Kyle), Levin Hynson (Maddie), Allison Ramey (Tanner), Tristan Hynson (Diana), Brennan Hynson, Emily Hynson, Rhys Bradbury and Rhett Bradbury; and two great- grandchildren, Bentley Hynson and Raylan Smith.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the outstanding care provided by the Richmond VA Medical Center.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Richmond VA Medical Center. Checks may be addressed to "Voluntary Services" and mailed to, Richmond VA Medical Center, c/o Voluntary Services, 1201 Broad Rock Blvd., Richmond, VA 23249.

I knew Dave from his fishing on my family’s pond in Battleboro. He’d fish three or four times a day because he said he couldn’t sit inside and watch tv. He had a great outlook on life and loved to fish. Rest in peace sir.
