Foy Garris Obituary

Foy Allen Garris "Paw Paw" went home to God on July 8, 2006 at his home, surrounded by his family and friends, to be with his first-born grandchild, USN FC3 Nicholas Allen Bockrath. Foy was born July 16, 1931 to the late William McKinley and Emma Prevette Garris. Foy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edna Joan (JoAn) Garris; his children, Ronald Allen Garris (Ron) of Chesterfield Co., Patricia Jo Layne (Patty) of Henrico Co., Richard Clyde Garris (Rick) of Chesterfield Co., Carolyn Sue Totty (Suzy) of Chesterfield Co.; his grandchildren, Rachel Ann Garris, Richard McKinly Garris, Allen Harrison Garris of Chesterfield Co.; one great-grandchild, Nicholas Allen Bockrath Jr., and his mother and father, Holly and John Pobitschka, of Virginia Beach; and his constant companion, his dog, Tisha, of the home. Foy is also survived by his brothers, R.L. Garris of Chesterfield Co., John Garris and his wife, Inez, of Lexington, N.C.; his sisters, Annie Mae Wilmoth and her husband, Eldon, of Elkin, N.C., Juanita Richardson of Kannapolis, N.C.; sister-in-law, Ella Garris of East Bend, N.C.; and by many loving and devoted nieces, nephews, and friends. Foy was preceded in death by brothers, Dean Garris, Billy W. Garris, Jerry Lee Garris; and sisters, Irene Harris and Ann Starbuck. Foy was a Past Master of Chester Lodge 94 and a Korean War veteran. He served with the 44th Combat Engineers in the Inchon Landing and the Battle of Chosen Resevoir. Foy ended his service with the Army with five major battle stars. Foy will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for children and animals. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched. In keeping with Foy's wishes, there will be no service. If you would like to do something in honor of Foy's memory, donations may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va., 23226.

He will be truly missed. I thank him for his humor and for all the laughs he gave us. He was loved by many people and touched a lot of lives. He is in a better place now and I know he can rest in piece. My sympathy goes out to Maw Maw and the family for their loss.
