Herman B. MAXEY Jr.

MAXEY, Herman B. Jr., of Wilmington, N.C., died Thursday, September 17, 2009, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born in Richmond, Va., on December 26, 1923; the son of the late Herman B. and Alma Ruth Connor Maxey. Mr. Maxey served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was the superintendent of Henrico County Water Utilities in Henrico, Va. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Wilmington, N.C. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Bessie Marie Stephens Maxey; three children, Marie Yancey, of Gainesville, Va., Janet Crews and husband, John, of Hampstead, N.C., and Bob Maxey and wife, Linda, of Wilmington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Lynn Hackney, Robin Baker, Kim Gobble, Matt Walton, Scott Maxey and Brian Maxey; six great-grandchildren, one brother, Raymond Maxey and wife, Laverne, of Mechanicsville, Va.; one sister, Gloria Huggins, of Montross, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Matt Walton.
