Isabel Coale Souder Correll

1921 - 2022

CORRELL, Isabel Coale Souder, born August 27, 1921, in Richmond, Va., the daughter of Basil Webster Coale and Ida Flippen Coale, passed away October 2, 2022. She was the widow of The Rev. W. Holt Souder and William B. Correll. She graduated from St. Catherine's School in 1939, Erskine Jr. College and Sacker Art School, both in Boston.

She is survived by her children, Ann Coale Souder of Newport R.I., Basil W.C. Souder of Chicago and Marshall Souder Lawson of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and grandson, Coale Souder of Chicago.

Mrs. Correll was a member of The Country Club of Virginia (the longest tenured member at the time of her death), The Woman's Club, St. Bride's Church Fleet St., London and St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Her lifelong support of St. Mary's Church was honored by an evening celebrating her 100th birthday in 2021. She was a grateful long-term resident of Westminster Canterbury Richmond.

She was also a member of Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Scotland, President of the Three Chopt Garden Club, President of the George Washington Fredericksburg Foundation, Chairman and Board Member of Richmond Memorial Hospital and Bon Secours Hospital Foundation and Chairman of the Board of the Sheltering Arms Hospital.

Mrs. Correll was a long-time friend and supporter of the Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, the Pamunkey Tribe in Virginia, Elk Hill Farm, Goochland and also enjoyed many summers in Biddeford Pool and Cundy's Harbor, Maine. An ardent golfer, she played on The Country Club of Virginia's golf team, and on numerous courses in Scotland, celebrating her 80th birthday with friends and family at Royal Dornoch.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 7, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 12291 River Road, Richmond. Interment will be private in Hollywood Cemetery. Donations may be made in her name to Elk Hill Farm, P.O. Box 99, Goochland, Va. 23063.
