James Hancock Obituary

James Aubrey Hancock, 77, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at his home in Matoaca. He was a victim of cancer. He was a native of Henderson. KY., and the son of the late Frederick and Carrie Stone Hancock. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon C. Hancock; and a brother, Frederick Hancock. He was a retired civil service worker at Ft Lee. Mr. Hancock served in the Marines during WWII, also the Korean War where he received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, and served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He is survived by his wife, Roselyn Harris Hancock, two sons, James A. Hancock II, and Norbert F. Hancock and his wife, Rose; a daughter, Barbara E. Hancock-Henley and husband, John. Mr. Hancock was a proud grandfather of Erica Michelle Bogese, Stephen Paul Bogese, Lauren Roxanne Hancock, Tara Ashley Hancock, John Hoskins Henley III, and Roselyn Elizabeth Hancock-Henley. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2005 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Rev. JoEllen Hetherington officiating. Interment to follow at East Matoaca Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: Martha for The Homeless, 117 Elm Street, Petersburg, Va. 23803, or to Crater Community Hospice, 840 West Roslyn Road, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834.
