James Ross Obituary

ROSS, James Preston, Jr., 72, of Richmond, Virginia, peacefully went with the Lord on August 5, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Delphine; son, Travis Becoat (Rai); daughter, Candace Ross; two grandchildren, Kylen and Ari; three sisters, Vivian Hubbard (Theodore), Sandra Ross and Cheryl Ross; a brother, Timothy Ross; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. James was born in Richmond, Virginia on February 13, 1950. He graduated from Armstrong High School in 1968. He then went on to serve in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. After completing his basic training, James completed a tour in Vietnam, where he functioned as an Assistant Army Mail Clerk and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. Upon returning back to Virginia, James' love of machinery and working with his hands led him to receiving his machinist certification. James worked as a machinist/maintenance mechanic for over 20 years at Philip Morris, USA. However, while working at his previous company, Reynolds Metals, he was fortunate enough to meet his future wife, Delphine, on a blind date. On April 9, 1988, they began their journey as man and wife, lasting 34 happy years. James was preceded in death by his father, James Preston Ross Sr.; and his mother, Bernice Vivian Ross (Brackett). Remains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull Street where a celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 11 a.m. Interment Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. Please join us at the repast at Tomahawk Ruritan Club, 4101 N Bailey Bridge Road, Midlothian, Va.

After living across the street from James and his family we will miss him greatly. He always had wonderful stories and I went to him for guidance several times of which he always had the right answer and the time to talk. Delphine, Travis and Candice, you will always be in our hearts and if you ever need anything we are just across the street.
