Janet DeVoss Obituary

DEVOSS, Janet S., November 13, 1944 to May 12, 2022. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Janet Scholz; sister, Barbara Scholz; and son-in-law, Tai Bass. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, of 37 years; two daughters, Amanda S. Bass and Barbara B. Orf (John); grandson, Nicholas C. Orf; sister, Nancy S. Barnes; as well as estranged grandson, Christopher K. Orf (Stacey) and his young daughter, Rhonda, that she never met. Janet was a member of Ginter Park Presbyterian Church, the Junior Women's Club and a teacher's aide for many years at Holladay Elementary. She was a longtime supporter of Lakeside Youth Baseball, where she watched both grandsons play ball, become umpires and coach alongside Jerry. She was a regular in the stands rooting for all the players even after the boys aged out of playing. Once they were older, she became more active in the family business, DeVoss Auto Service, manning the desk, making phone calls and many other things. A special thank you to Robert and Rick at the Waylands House for making her last few moments as comfortable as possible.

Graveside service will be May 21, 10 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 754 Bremo Bluff Rd., Bremo Bluff, Va. 23022. As a sweet reminder of Janet and Jerry meeting at Azalea Bowling Alley, a Celebration of Life will be held at River City Roll, 939 Myers St., Richmond, Va. 23230, the same day from 2 to 4 p.m.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, to make donations to Lakeside Youth Baseball, P.O. Box 9575, Richmond, Va. 23227.
