Joan DeBiasi Obituary

Joan Elizabeth Plageman DeBiasi

October 7, 1940 - December 27, 2025

Joan Elizabeth Plageman DeBiasi, a lifelong resident of Richmond, VA, passed away on December 27, 2025, in Wilmington, NC.

She was born on October 7, 1940, in Richmond to Gerard Henry Plageman, III and Margaret Ann (Gillio) Plageman. She was the eldest of four children and the only girl. She graduated from Marymount School in Richmond, and continued her education at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ, becoming a dental hygienist.

She met her beloved Gil at a dance at Saint Bridget Church in Richmond and what a match they made, the dentist and the dental hygienist! They were married for 62 years before Gil's passing in 2024.

We will all miss Joan, who was the picture of grace, strength and kindness. Joan poured her heart and soul into her family, friends and community, entertaining often and volunteering locally and abroad. In September of 2022, Gil and Joan moved to Wilmington, NC to be closer to their children and grandchildren, once again pouring her heart into her new community, making new friends and living life to the fullest, including becoming an avid Rummikub player.

Joan is survived by her three sons, G. Frank DeBiasi, Jr. (Gene Meyer) of Tangier, Morocco, Christopher DeBiasi (Sharon) of Wilmington, NC, and Stephen DeBiasi (Elizabeth) of Wilmington, NC. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Harlan Wilson DeBiasi, Andrew Walker DeBiasi, and Anna Christina DeBiasi plus Sharon's daughters Erin and Devin (Kevin) who made Gil and Joan great grandparents when Levi James Price was born in 2023.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond, VA 23230.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd, Richmond, VA 23229.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joan's memory to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (themmrf.org) or to Saint Mary's Catholic Church at 9505 Gayton Rd., Richmond, VA 23229.

Joan's generosity and spirit will continue to inspire through acts of kindness made in her memory.
