John Banks Obituary

John Asa Banks Jr., 81, of Ashland, retired director of Legislative Services, Commonwealth of Virginia and husband of Kathryn Johnson Banks, died on June 3, 2005. In addition to his wife, Mr. Banks is survived by his two sons and their wives, Asa and Martha Banks and Jim and Hollis Banks; a daughter, Terry Banks; and eight grandchildren, John, Charlie and Paul Banks, Jamie, Colby and Drew Banks, and Katie and Roy Fuller, all of Richmond. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Howard and Virginia Thompson, J. Clyde and Barbara Jean Johnson, Elsie Nichols and Mary Johnson, all of Ashland. He was a World War II veteran with 20 years of service in the U.S. Army. Mr. Banks was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College with a bachelor's degree, Virginia Commonwealth University with a master's degree and the University of Louisville with a law degree. He was a Presbyterian elder and a member of New Hanover Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsville. The family will receive friends in the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Ashland, Va. The family suggests memorial gifts may be made to the New Hanover Presbyterian Church, 10058 Chamberlayne Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.
