John Ernest "Ernie" Bolling

BOLLING, John Ernest "Ernie", passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Johnson Bolling; and his parents, Thomas Winston Bolling and Loretta Blaker Bolling. He is survived by his cherished wife, Laura Stanford Bolling; his children, John "Jeb" Bolling, Jr. (Delia) and Kristine Bolling; three grandchildren, Jeremy Tadlock, Lila Tadlock and Daniel Bolling; stepson, Steven Adler (Allison) and their daughter, Emily Grace Adler. Following graduation from Virginia Tech, Ernie went into practice as a CPA and continued his education, earning an MBA from VCU. He recently retired after 47 years. For many years, Ernie loved sailing with his family on the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers as well as the Chesapeake Bay. In more recent years, he enjoyed cycling, golf, and exploring the Virginia mountains. Ernie was always ready for a road trip, and he invariably and intentionally took the "scenic route!" Throughout his life, Ernie always worked hard, but his family was the most important thing to him. Whether it was sailing on the boat, soccer games, or music performances, he always made time for them. Ernie also maintained close friendships from middle school, high school, college, and with his long-term clients until his passing. His friends always knew he was there and valued their friendship. The most wonderful thing about Ernie was that he didn't have to think about being kind, he just was kind, always and to everyone. The hearts of all who knew and loved him are broken at his passing.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave, Richmond, Va. 23230.
