John Stewart Obituary

STEWART, John Wesley, 71, of Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, died on May 27, 2022. Born July 4, 1950, he was the only son of Gilbert and Odette Stewart, who predeceased him. John spent much of his childhood growing up in Georgia but, as fate would have it, moved to Lake Forest, Illinois for his senior year of high school. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nancy, who would become his wife of over 49 years. John attended Northern Illinois University, where he played football and studied Accounting. After college, John and Nancy married and together raised two children. John spent his career as a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner, where he enjoyed helping people solve complex tax issues and testifying in court as an expert witness. He was also a published author and accomplished speaker. John was always extremely generous with his time, talents and resources both to his family and friends as well as the community and volunteered at numerous organizations throughout his life. He was very proud of his opportunity to serve on the Ethics Committee of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. In his spare time, John could be found reading, playing and watching golf, and spending time with his family at the beach. John is survived by his wife, Nancy Doyle Stewart; his daughter, Michelle Stewart Eddy (Jameson); his son, Michael John Stewart (Sarah); grandchildren, Caitlin and Carson Eddy and Katherine and Neil Stewart. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd., at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
