Katharine Mauck Obituary
Katharine Kelley Mauck, 57, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving daughters and husband.
Katharine was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Beverly Kelley. She is survived by her husband, Jay Mauck; her loving girls, Elizabeth, Britt, and Charlotte; her sister, Elizabeth Kelley; her nephew, John; nieces Katharine and Sierra; numerous cousins; and countless friends who were like family.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, on May 18,1968, Katharine attended Collegiate School where she formed true lifelong friendships. She then went on to graduate from Guilford College with a degree in Psychology. Possessing a true servant's heart, Katharine found her calling when she decided to pursue a career in nursing. For 29 years, she gave her whole self to caring for and healing sick and injured patients.
Katharine found a beloved life partner in Jay Mauck. The couple married on June 8, 1996, at All Saints Episcopal Church. Married for 29 years, Katharine and Jay raised their 3 dear girls in a home full of love and laughter. Katharine cherished being a mother above all things. Her unconditional love for her girls was apparent to all. She never missed an event, an opportunity to boast about their numerous accomplishments, or a chance to snuggle on the couch.
Katharine's fun-loving spirit was glowing and contagious. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and loving demeanor, traits she was proud to see embodied in her girls. Her signature gift of finding joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and dancing, won the hearts and trust of many. Whether she was playing pickleball, tennis, or sitting on the beach enjoying the sun, Katharine brightened every space she entered.
We find peace knowing that Katharine has reunited in heaven with her adoring parents and is probably on her way to an angelic dance party.
Thank you to the beloved doctors and nurses of VCU Massey Cancer Center where Katharine was treated twice for an aggressive breast cancer, and to friends and family far and wide for the many prayers and acts of love.
A service will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church on September 19, 2025, at 1 p.m. with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.
