Katherine Harder Obituary

HARDER, Katherine "Kate" C., age 72, of Richmond, passed away on November 12, 2022 from complications related to a long, unflinching battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shepard Harder (2015). She is survived by her son, Christian Philip Harder and his wife, Kendall, both of whom she adored; her sister, Margaret Wyman (Steve); her brothers, Colin (Jeanine) and Edward Callahan; a niece and two nephews. Equally as important, Katherine is survived by her dear friends, countless in number, all of whom she loved deeply. Katherine was born in Minneapolis, Minn. She graduated from Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y., where she developed a lifelong love of travel, proven by the years she spent exploring Istanbul, Egypt, Thailand and Turkey with her husband, Shep. Katherine lived in Switzerland for several years before returning stateside to raise a family in Virginia. She was a woman of unwavering deep faith, incredible kindness and unmatched grace. That, alongside her indomitable spirit, allowed her to fully inhabit both the hardships and joys of life. Katherine had a boundless love that continued until her passing, always putting others before herself. Much like one of the characters from her favorite British mysteries, she thought life paired best with a chilled flute of champagne and inexhaustible curiosity. A Funeral Mass will be at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 18 N. Laurel, Richmond, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massey Cancer Center, either by phone at (804) 828-1450, or by mail, at VCU Massey Cancer Center, Box 843042, Richmond, Va. 23284.
