Laney Caston Obituary
Laney is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Stephanie Caston, and his children, from his first marriage to Janet Chappell, son Laney White Caston III and daughter Anne Caston-Gaa (Scott) and his step-children Lee Kallman (Faith) and Monica Moehring (Timothy); loving sisters Lynda Rice and Anita Bruch (fiancé David Leary); and sister-in-laws Melanie Lapkin (Steve) and Stacey McCann (Brian); grandchildren Alexander and Christopher Gaa, Ali and Sander Kallman, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Laney was predeceased by his parents, Laney and Lula Caston.
Laney was the owner of Caston Studio and had a prolific photography career. He took the business over from his father and grew it from one studio on W. Grace St. to six studios throughout Central Virginia.
Laney created portraits for families, graduating seniors, political figures, pets, and children. He was especially gifted and known for his pre-wedding bridal portraits and wedding day candids. His artistry and attention to light and shadow earned him the title Master Photographer by the NAPCP.
Laney loved life. From cars to motorcycles to fishing with a boat filled with friends. He loved animals; horses, dogs, cats, a monkey, and even a foul-mouthed cockatoo. He was an avid golfer, gambler, and traveler; never missing a Fantasy Fest in Key West.
Laney was an outgoing, handsome, creative person who loved people. His talents and interests were as diverse as the people he enjoyed spending time with.
The Family will receive visitors on Thursday, April 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's 8510 Staples Mill Rd, Richmond, VA 23228. Services will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Bliley's Funeral Home followed by graveside services at Greenwood Memorial Gardens; 12609 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23238

Laney Caston, Jr. took all of the candid photos of our wedding, Oct. 21, 1961! His father did my portrait and his mother did the color. Still have my wedding book and portraits! Very nice family; I remember them well!

The world lost one of the truly good guys. He had such a passion for life and enjoyed all the good things the good Lord brought his way. I will always remember fondly when we spent time together playing golf and tennis, fishing and boating, dancing and eating good food with people we loved. I will always be able to hear his quick laugh and see his devilish smile. Rest in peace, ole friend.

I first met Laney and Anita when I was a student nurse at Grace hospital in Richmond 1971 He did my graduation pictures, my weddding pictures, my children's pictures and most recently his studio did my grandaughters high school portraits in in 2021. I can easily remember his parents working alon with Anita in that great big studio on Grace. Stephanie I will be praying for all

Losing Laney is such a loss. He was such a wonderful person- kind, talented, funny with a marvelous sense of humor and a real enjoyment of life. He will be greatly missed. Condolences to sweet Stephanie and the entire family.

Oh, so sorry to hear this. I have been friends with the Caston family forever. Have so many memories of getting engagement and wedding pictures over at least 50 years. Caston will always be THE best photography business. My wedding picture was so old that it needed edited from them and now looks as good as new. I can't say enough about this terrific family.
