Mabel Williams Obituary

Mabel Weekley Williams

November 10, 1936 - December 4, 2024

Mabel Weekley Williams, 88 years old, was called home on December 4, 2024, following a valiant fight with cancer. Born in Mt. Solon, VA, she moved to Richmond with her sister, Mary to work for C&P Telephone Company. Mabel met and fell in love with Howard Williams, a Richmond City Police Officer. During their 51-year marriage she fulfilled her true passion; raising their three children and caring for her family. Her career continued in Customer Service at First Virginia Bank Operations Center.

The heart of our family was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Dora Weekley; her husband, Howard; son, Douglas; as well as siblings: William, Richard, Evelyn "Betty", Mary, and Nancy. Mabel is survived by her daughter, Kimberley; son, Howard Jr. "Sonny" (Anita); her beloved grandchildren: Lacy, Megan, Kaitlyn and Jacob; and great-grandson Killian; as well as sisters: Charlotte "Tootie" and Mildred "Janie" Marie; and several special nieces and nephews.

Affectionately known as Nanny Mabel or Mom Mabel to many people she met, she was a second mother and grandmother to many. Her motherly ways, nurturing spirit, and gentle soul left a lasting impression on everyone who met her; to have known her was to love her. Her time was dedicated to her faith, strong values, family, and her love of basketball! Having been an outstanding basketball player in high school, she loved to watch college basketball, especially UVA. Mabel cherished the simple things in life, especially gardening. She adored her many plants and flowers, in awe of watching things grow. Mabel loved life and she loved the Lord. In honor of her beautiful memory and advice, we will "keep our happy smiles and spread special blessings always."

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10th, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Mechanicsville. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, at Beulah Baptist Church, Kent's Store, VA. Interment will follow in Lyles Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilmington, VA. Donations in Mabel's memory may be sent to St. Jude's Research Hospital, as it was dear to her.
