Malcolm Mann Obituary

MANN, Malcolm Shelton, was born December 13, 1919 and passed away on April 23, 2023. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maude Leigh Giles Mann; his parents, Eddie W. and Hallie D. Mann; siblings, Raymond S. Mann, A. Wister Mann, Julia M. Stone, Ralph D. Mann and Winfree M. Leath; and stepson, Branch White. He is survived by daughters, Katherine Mann and Archer Lewis (Jimmy Stamey); grandchildren, Clarke Lewis (Alexis) and Morgan Lewis; great-grandson, Blair Lewis. Mac graduated from John Marshall High School and attended the College of William and Mary. After two years at W&M, Mac joined the U.S Army Air Corps where he served in WWII in Japan and the Philippines.

Malcolm returned from the war and worked in Philadelphia, Pa. in Department of Social Services. Later, he moved back to Richmond, where he became Manager of Rental Properties for Phillips Hall Real Estate. Mac was a member of The Sons of The Revolution, Society of the Cincinnati, the Jamestown Society and member of St. James Church. He was a favored uncle who took time to organize multiple outings for his nieces and nephews including weekly horseback riding lessons at Bruce's Riding Academy as well as ice skating adventures in the winter. Mac's artistic ability was visible in many ways, especially when he created a beautiful snow sculpture of a woman in a long dress, which was photographed and published by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Mac loved to travel, collect antiques and research family ancestry. He had a phenomenal ability to quote family names, events and dates back to the days of King Charlemagne in the 700s AD. Most of all, Mac loved his family. He adored his children and grandchildren and remained close to all his nephews and nieces, especially Judy Stone Dixon, who assisted with his care. He will be remembered and loved by all.

Funeral service will be graveside at Hollywood Cemetery on April 27 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Tunnel To Towers Foundation.

Mann Family Research Foundation

April 27, 2023

"The Mann Family Research Foundation" with the greatest honor, was able to click the "Family" button when leaving this rememberance. We, Mr. Malcolm Mann's cousins across the United States, met and collaborated with him on the "Mann Family Tree" beginning in Colonial Virginia with our ancester Robert Mann. Cousin John Aylor, Virginia, was instrumental in working with Malcolm to have his valuable knowledge and DNA added to our database. Malcolm's firsthand knowledge through stories from his parents and grandparents was a wonderful source of living history the Foundation treasured. In return, The Foundation was able to absolutely prove links to family tree branches long lost to history through research and confirmed by DNA from male elders like Malcolm. Our Mann line arrived in Virginia so early that our Mann DNA line is very rare. The Mann Family Research Foundation will continue to dedicate ourselves to excellence in the preservation and restoration of "The Mann Family Tree", to honor all those whose strength, courage, hard work and strong family values built this free Republic. Rest in peace, Cousin. Your memory will always bring a smile.
