Thorald Evans Obituary

Thorald A. "Thor" Evans, age 75, passed away peacefully on January 12th, 2026 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born on March 5, 1950, he was the son of the late Charles and Carmella Evans of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, Thor was preceded in death by his son, Patrick C. Evans, and his parents-in-law, Frank and Pauline Beverly.

Thor is survived by his cherished wife of 53 years, Barbara B. Evans; his son, Nathan T. Evans and his wife, Kimberly; his daughter, Erin B. Jewett and her husband, Kevin; his grandchildren, Kaylee Martin and her husband Jarred, Callum, Cooper, and Kamrynn Evans and Elijah Jewett; his sister, Deborah G. Evans; and his brother-in-law and sister-in law, Frank E. Beverly, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Nicewonder Beverly.

He attended college in Charlottesville, Virginia at the University of Virginia, where he met and married the love of his life, Barbara, and graduated with a degree in engineering. He went on to work for Daniel Construction Company, Olin Chemical, Duke Power, and then Dominion Virginia Power, where he dedicated the majority of his career. After retirement from Dominion, his incredible mind could not seem to stay still for very long, and he went back to where it all began, the University of Virginia, to work on hospital construction projects. He also took great pride in his time working for his community as a member of the school board of Goochland County and a member of the county's Committee for Excellence in Education.

It meant a great deal to him to take this opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude to the many people who had touched his life along the way, so the following thoughts were written by him before his passing:

"There is only one thing to say and that is thank you. I want to profoundly thank all of the people who have made my life good. Living is not breathing a certain number of times over a certain number of years. It is so very much more. Sharing a life with others who bring you joy and help you to become a better person is what life is really about. Each of you, in your own way, made my life worth living. As I write this and look back at my life, I can remember many people over the years who did the things large and small that, woven together, formed the fabric of everything good about my life. I hope, in turn, that I was able to be a positive part of your life. I tried my best to give as good as I got. Even in my presently reduced circumstances, if I had the chance to rejoin this world, but at the expense of not having known you all, and live my life all over again, it would be a poor bargain indeed. So, while I could have wished for even more time, I step out of this life content. From the bottom of my heart, I thank each of you. I wish you the very best. I wish you to be surrounded by the kind of people who populated my life, who helped me navigate my time with hope and joy. Thank you so very much."

Thor was beloved by his family and friends as a force of nature who did everything in his life big...provided, protected, built, created, solved, and above all else, loved. He was an incredible source of strength and pride for his family, and he will be missed beyond all measure.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Affinity Funeral Service, located at 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 3:00 p.m.
